DIGITAL TV RECEIVER

If you choose to go digital without changing your television, You may need to buy a digital tv box (set top box) or a digital television recorder. It would be certainly less expensive to buy a digital tv box, but a digital tv recorder will give you more options when recording programmes.

Digital tv boxes are cheaper because they have less functions than a digital tv recorder, but you will still have to adapt to a new way of viewing your channels. It will give you a large selection of digital tv and radio channels.

Although the digital tv recorder is more expensive than a digital tv box, you can also record programmes with a simple press of a button, and because the normally have two tuners, you can watch one channel while recording a programme on another channel.

HD Ready Television

You do not need to have a HD (high definition) television set to receive digital channels. The majority of new flat screen television sets are now HD ready, but this does not mean that they have a digital decoder ready for the digital switchover.

Hd ready means that the television is ready for showing pictures from a high definition service. This service is currently available on virgin cable and satellite and may have a subscription charge.
